Sports Injuries & Prevention

Sporting injuries happen fast, but they are often growling long before they bite. Your ligament sprain or muscle strain is going to take some weeks to heal – but our Ergofix physios can get you better quicker!

What happens next?

Maybe your sprain happened because of muscle imbalances – old tightness and weakness issues – so your body let you down. Get back on the field quickly with early assessment and treatment of your injury AND its causes.

Did you know that our skilled physios can get you walking on that ankle sprain the same day it happened? Did you know that letting your joint swell up and limping on it for days is actually slowing your healing and stopping you getting on with life?

Have you ever “wished you’d known something earlier” so you could have fix it early rather than waited for weeks and still having to go through the effort of recovery?

Getting your injury to go away and stay away.

Early physiotherapy treatment of acute injuries usually promotes a quicker recovery by reducing pain, swelling and stiffness. Fixing underlying causes (tight or weak muscles and joint instability) allows faster and safer return to work, sports and other activities.

Pilates

Pilates is a comprehensive form of exercise designed to enhance strength, flexibility, andoverall body awareness and movement patterns. Developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century, this method was originally designed for dancers. It focuses on core stability, mindful movement, and strength throughout range to improve both physical fitness and mental well-being.

Pilates can be done with equipment such as a reformer, trap table, balls, rings and foam rolls, but can also be done without any equipment at all, making it easy and effective to include in home exercise programs.

At Ergofix we teach (one on one) clinical Pilates that caters to all fitness levels. Your physiotherapist has the experience to know if this form of exercise is suitable for you and to guide you through exercises that strengthen your core muscles, improve posture, and increase flexibility. Pilates can be a great adjunct therapy to assist in rehabilitation of an injury. It can also be used to enhance your athletic performance, or simply maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Pilates provides a low-impact yet highly effective workout that supports your bodys natural alignment and movement.

Exercise Physiology

An exercise physiologist is a highly trained healthcare professional who specializes in the assessment, design, and implementation of exercise programs tailored to individual needs. They utilize their expertise to help clients improve their overall health, manage chronic conditions, and enhance athletic performance. By conducting comprehensive evaluations, they develop personalized fitness plans that focus on improving strength, endurance, flexibility, and overall functional capacity.

Exercise physiologists can work with a wide range of conditions:

• cardiovascular disease
• diabetes
• obesity
• arthritis
• respiratory disorders
• other chronic conditions
• those with a disability

These tailored programs not only promote physical health but also contribute to psychological well-being by reducing symptoms of anxiety and depression. Exercise physiologists educate clients on safe exercise practices, ensuring that each movement is effective and reduces the risk of injury. They also monitor progress, making necessary adjustments to keep clients motivated and engaged. The support of an exercise physiologist can be particularly beneficial for individuals recovering from surgery or managing the side effects of treatment for chronic illnesses. Additionally, they play a crucial role in preventive health, helping clients adopt a more active lifestyle that can stave off potential health issues.

At Ergofix, Naomi Watts and Ryan Press have extensive knowledge in this field. Before becoming Physiotherapists, both have undergraduate degrees in Exercise Physiology and have worked in the field for a number of years.
